Hello everybody and welcome to my very first podcast! I'm so glad you found me. If you are thinking about placing your child or looking for a family to adopt your child, please know that I made this podcast with you in my mind and heart. I've been living adoption and learning about it for awhile now and I definitely have some thoughts and suggestions I want to share with you. Sooo... let's talk about adoption: the good and the bad, the mistakes we've made and the things we've done really well, too! If you are having a hard time or struggling or just need a laugh right now, I hope this podcast helps you.
In this first episode, I talk about how I became an adoption advocate even before I placed my child for adoption. I talk about a lot of things I wish I knew before I placed my child. Things no one ever mentioned to me and some things (hello, pandemic??) that were impossible to plan for. Here are just some of the topics we'll discuss:
• How your family might be affected when you decide to place your baby.
• How the grief and loss can affect your relationships with friends and family.
• Dealing with fear and when to seek help.
• Learning how to ask for what you need.
• Making an adoption plan in the middle of a pandemic (how I survived over 200 days without touching my daughter!)
• Managing relationships with the entire birth family (both sides).
• Understanding that, as a birth mother, you are not in charge. You are not the boss of your child any more.
Adoption is so hard. It takes all your strength and all your love. If you ever want to talk about this episode or anything else about adoption that is on your mind, please email me at emily@adopting.com. Thank you!!!
