Lori began writing about and researching myriad perspectives on adoption when her children were toddlers. She began exploring and writing about adoption in 2007, and later wrote The Open-Hearted Way to Open Adoption with her daughter's birth mom, published in 2013.

Lori continues to learn from a diverse set of adoption viewpoints through her podcast, Adoption: The Long View. Lori's daughter and son are now young adults, and Lori is passionate about passing on to newer adoptive parents all she wished she'd known earlier.

Lori writes essays articles regularly at LavenderLuz.com. Her latest book, Adoption Unfiltered, will be published by Rowman & Littlefirled in hardcover in the fall of 2023. It is co-authored by adoptee Sara Easterly and birth mom Kelsey Vander Vliet Ranyard. Their video series exploring the three + sides of adoption can be found on YouTube @AdoptionUnfiltered.

Lori was honored as an Angel in Adoption® by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute, is a sought-after keynote speaker and workshop/webinar leader. She also coaches adoptive parents through the sometimes tricky terrain of living in open adoptions, whether birth family members are present or not.
